The Helping Paws Story

  • Fox Valley Helping Paws Animal Welfare
    Association, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization,
established a foster program in 1969 which rehomed orphaned animals into permanent,
loving homes. Helping Paws incorporated as
the first no-kill animal welfare association in
McHenry County in 1971. The foster program
outgrew its first facility and in 1995, Helping
Paws moved to a new facility in Ridgefield.
This facility, however, only had room to house
cats. So, in 1998, Helping Paws again moved to
a larger facility in Crystal Lake. The shelter's
success in saving abandoned animals in
McHenry County quickly outgrew the Crystal
Lake facility, and in 2006, Helping Paws moved
to a much larger facility with room for many
    more animals.
