Dear Panting for Paws Participants.

Your participation in the Panting for Paws annual race does more than keep our doors open, or put nourishing food into hungry bellies, or provide one more vaccine, clean blankets, or a toy to the abandoned animals at our shelter.
It helps to reignite the spark in the once dark and frightened eyes of each animal in our care, and gives each the courage to live fully, not just to survive.
It gives our staff and volunteers genuine hope that their efforts have not been in vain -- that the cats and dogs who have found refuge with us have a chance and will not be tossed back to the streets.
It promises a new life for these animals -- one in which they learn to trust and to love again.
We thank you for your generous heart and for demonstrating that a difference can be made ... one step at a time.

Thank you! SIGN UP

  • helping paws story

Fox Valley Helping Paws Animal Welfare Association, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, established a foster program in 1969 which rehomed orphaned animals into permanent, loving homes. Helping Paws incorporated as the first no-kill animal welfare association in McHenry County in 1971. The foster program outgrew its first facility and in 1995, Helping Paws moved to a new facility in Ridgefield. This facility, however, only had room to house cats. So, in 1998, Helping Paws again moved to a larger facility in Crystal Lake. The shelter's success in saving abandoned animals in McHenry County quickly outgrew the Crystal Lake facility, and in 2006, Helping Paws moved to a much larger facility with room for many more animals.
